I have received a copy of this book in audio format in exchange for an honest review.

In the previous book, after Rogue’s death, we left Em, Zach and Nona at the head of the rebellion. Nevertheless, their initial efforts at destroying the drug injected to the defects are not enough since President Vider has taken more drastic measures by surgically modifying defects to become middlings without a will. The future of the people in Austin Valley depends on them, but things will not be easy.

If the previous book was a transition, this one is the conclusion to the story, and we see that sometimes, the smallest people, the unseen, could help to make a difference. Like the previous two books, this one is also steadily paced, not overloading the listener but also not leaving many idle moments. Words are beautifully knitted together creating an unforgettable story where Em, Zach, Nona and some others fight for a fair world.

The story flows harmoniously, and listening it from the voice of Elizabeth Klett is a real pleasure. Her voice and the story are very powerful to hold your attention, making it light at the same time. This is one of those books that I could listen from the beginning to the end in one sit.

This trilogy deserves to be in a place of consideration regarding modern fantasy. It is also cataloged as Young Adult but older adults will enjoy it too, since the young couple romance part is not too overwhelming. I would recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a beautifully written story with which also feels fresh and hopeful.
