Polly is juggling the care of her wheelchair-bound mother, her pet-sitting business and the sale of the family home. On top of that she finds herself having to deal with an arrogant but really sexy realtor, and Christmas is coming! None of that seems important, though, when she finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation and must find the real killer before an innocent homeless man and his dog are wrongly convicted. Nothing much happens in the small town of Mallowapple, Maine, but with the Christmas holidays coming it’s a busy time for Polly Parrett and her pet-sitting crew. Temperatures are plummeting, snow is falling
Polly Parret is a young woman owning a pet sitting business. Due to family issues her mother needs to sell her old house, so they contact a realter. Tayler seems to be everything a young woman needs in a man. A series of coincidences will make Polly and Tayler to spend some time together and get involved in a murder investigation.
I find cozy mysteries to be refreshing due to how easy and light they feel. This one is no exception, but I found some differences between this one and other cozy mysteries. For one, Polly, the main character, seems younger than average. That or she behaves much younger than expected. Her comments could be attributed to a young adult, so I think this books could also qualify as YA. I think this is part of why I had more troubles to connect to Polly than in general to other main characters in cozy mysteries.
The book was entertaining and I found it pleasing for animal lovers. This part also differs from other cozy mysteries but I have to say that this I liked.
What disappointed me a bit was how predictable the story was. I guessed quite fast who was behind the murder, and it was not an difficult task since there were very few characters, and just one that acted suspicious.
Jennifer Fournier delivered a correct narration, emphasizing where it was needed and interpreting the character really well. She did a very good impersonation of Polly. What did not convince me was the cadence of the narration. At times I had the impression that she was reading for children. It was not terrible, but I did not feel 100% convinced. There were some swallowing noises too, but nothing too disturbing.
It was a short and easy listen. Not a remarkable book among this genre, but one to consider if you are into cozy mysteries.
I received a copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.Story (Plot) | |

My name is Elena. Since I was a little child I loved science fiction and fantasy, and I can’t resist a good novel. In 2015, while wait I started to listen to audiobooks and I discovered the pleasure in being able to read while doing my daily tasks, so there’s always an audiobook playing on my phone. If you see me with my Bluetooth headphones on, please be gentle, I get easily startled.
I live with my boyfriend, which I met during my six-year stay in Belgium, four cockatiels, eight lovebirds, and a hamster in Madrid, Spain; and I like to spend my free time knitting and sewing while listening to audiobooks.
