It's a home invasion from beyond the grave in this novel of unrelenting terror from the Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of PRESSURE, DWELLER, and WOLF HUNT.

It doesn't seem like the perfect house, but screw it, it's good enough to rent for a year. Unfortunately for Boyd, Adeline, and their two young daughters, it's immediately clear that they chose the wrong place.

The nightmare begins with violent coughs and headaches. Food starts to rot almost as soon as they take it inside. A pet tarantula goes missing. Some family members begin to exhibit creepy behavior.

Then the ghosts arrive, and all Hell breaks loose...

Boyd gets a promotion at work, but that means that he and his family will have to move to a new area. After searching they find what they thought it was the perfect house. But then strange things start to happen.

I really enjoyed this quick listen. I’m more a gore than horror kind of person and this is maybe why this book worked so well with me. I didn’t really feel scared but there were some gruesome scenes that I quite enjoyed. There was also enough intrigue to keep me going.

Even though the characters were not very developed, they felt realistic, and their interactions were natural. I enjoyed the relationship the parents had with their daughters, and how they faced the events they were encountering in their new house.

Joe Hempel’s narrations was sublime. He knows how to create the right atmosphere for this kind of stories, and is also really talented interpreting characters and bringing them to life, while also delivering different voices for each of them but being subtle at the same time. A very difficult balance that Hempel masters.

I would recommend this book to anyone into horror, especially to those ones into gore.

I received a copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.
