The Inhibitors were designed to eliminate any life-form reaching a certain level of intelligence - and they've targeted humanity. War veteran Clavain and a ragtag group of refugees have fled into hiding. Their leadership is faltering, and their situation is growing more desperate.
But their little colony has just received an unexpected visitor: an avenging angel with the power to lead mankind to safety - or draw down its darkest enemy. And as she leads them to an apparently insignificant moon light-years away, it begins to dawn on Clavain and his companions that to beat one enemy, it may be necessary to forge an alliance with something much worse.
I was aware the ending would be unsatisfactory (thank you, Reddit), but I had such a great time with this book that I don’t mind at all. It seems Redemption Ark had more adepts than Absolution Gap, but I liked this final installment much more. While Redemption Ark’s ending was satisfactory, I found the middle quite boring. With this one, I thoroughly enjoyed the buildup, enough to forgive Reynolds for a mediocre ending.
There were some grim moments that thankfully happened off-screen. While Skade still doesn’t feel fully rounded to me, Anna seemed to lose all her brain cells after maternity, and Ilya left a huge hole in my heart, other characters really grew on me, like Scorpio, Captain Branigan, and Anoinette. I absolutely loved Scorpio, who was, for me, the absolute hero of this book.
I also enjoyed the events happening on Hela, and I found the whole religion and cathedral procession fascinating. Both Quaiche and Grelier were ridiculous and scary at times, making those sections more amusing. It’s a pity the events there weren’t more relevant in the end.
This series is becoming one of my favorites. As Inhibitor Phase was written quite some years later, I’m going to take a short break before reading it. Just a very short break of one week max while I catch up on other books.

My name is Elena. Since I was a little child I loved science fiction and fantasy, and I can’t resist a good novel. In 2015, while wait I started to listen to audiobooks and I discovered the pleasure in being able to read while doing my daily tasks, so there’s always an audiobook playing on my phone. If you see me with my Bluetooth headphones on, please be gentle, I get easily startled.
I live with my boyfriend, which I met during my six-year stay in Belgium, four cockatiels, eight lovebirds, and a hamster in Madrid, Spain; and I like to spend my free time knitting and sewing while listening to audiobooks.
